COMPASS Prep, Canton, GA

Compass Prep is a tuition-based  program that offers a full academic track for students from kindergarten level through high school.  Our elementary program uses a creative, hands-on, Charlotte Mason-type approach with lots of "stretch time". This  works well for all those active little boys and girls who tire easily of workbooks and sit-down activities.  Our package includes studies in science, nature study, history, writing, literature, geography and world cultures, hands-on and individualized math study, art and music appreciation. We hope to include a broad based foreign language study next year as well. All of this is taught in a very natural, relaxed fashion where the children hardly know they're "doing school" and very little homework is required of them!  We believe young children should have plenty of time to learn through the freedom of play along with introducing them to learning through written materials.

Our middle and high school levels expand on this approach with  project and research oriented learning.  We  use textbooks only as a tool, not as an end in themselves. Middle and High school level students are offered all the basic subjects they need to prepare for life, work and further education, all taught through the lens of a Biblical worldview.  We offer a package of courses that are integrated for consistency:  History, literature, writing and grammar, and Christian worldviews combined so that the students learn to connect the dots and use critical thinking skills in every area. We currently offer excellent Spanish and Mandarin Chinese courses and hope to add French and German next year.  Specialized courses such as Biblical Psychology and Counseling, Human Anatomy, Economics and Government, will, along with classroom study,  take the students into the community  through frequent exploratory field trips and  special speakers, making their classroom studies relevant and meaningful. "Some of our exploration will include a look at  traditional and alternative medicine, starting their own businesses, meeting with city/county/state leaders to gain understanding of civil government, and discovering how the  human mind works and how to help others through Biblical counseling.

Our overall goal for the upper level is to help students identify their gifts and calling before God and then to help them prepare for it through academic training, worldview development and vocational direction.
We offer a two day program for all students and an optional third day for our upper level (age 12-18) that includes focused art and music opportunities, other electives and an expanded Exploratory program. Tuition includes all books and materials needed for the year, all field trip fees and for students 16 and up, the Highlands Abilities Battery testing  (a $550.00 value). We are also in the process of contracting with Gold's Gym for a group membership so that Compass students (in our upper level) would have full access to their awesome new facilities on Hwy 92 in Woodstock, at no additional charge! Family members who are not students at Compass can also join at a drastically reduced group rate.  More to come on that exciting possibility!
